"Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came."
If you actually remember that song from the 80s sitcom Cheers, you don't just know you're old — you already know the most powerful business strategy on the planet.
For the younger crowd who have no clue what I'm talking about, Cheers was a legendary TV show about a sports bar where the owners and their customers were like family. It didn't matter if you were a mailman or a lawyer. When you walked in, you were home. That, to me, is the ultimate standard for customer experience.
The bar wasn't special because the beer was cheap. It was special because people felt welcomed and cared for, like family. That feeling is why people call a business "my spot" and bring their friends along just to show off how well they're treated.
But here's the reality — you can't fake that energy if your staff is miserable behind the counter.
"You can't expect your team to treat customers like royalty if you're treating them like they have no value. Take care of your people first, and they'll take care of your clients, making sure every customer feels like family the moment they walk through the door. Culture is the only marketing strategy that never expires."
I'm challenging every brand and business owner reading this to try being more human to your staff this week. Take care of your people first, and watch how fast the culture shifts, and how fast your team starts making clients feel like family too.
Don't take my word for it. Try it for 30 days and watch your reputation change.
